The beginning of the night was fun. When we got there Sidney, Brooks, Jordan, and I all played pool and it was so much fun. Me and Sidney lost and apparently it was my fault according to Sidney. The guys were all really nice and I was glad I went. Sidney was drinking and having a fun time and I decided just to lounge on the couch upstairs and alot of people were downstairs. Brooks and I were actually talking and then I heard a knock on the door and it was like amazing, because Sidney ran up and answered the door. Then I realized why he was so eager to answer the door, it was a bunch of girls. He apparently knew this one girl, her name was Annie. She was blonde and was dressed like hooker, I mean apparently thats Sidney's type these days. They went back downstairs and I knew that I was going to be either leaving ASAP or hanging out by myself.
"Answer me this, why did he insist I come if he was just going to bring those girls here?" I said looking at Brooks.
"You still like him?"
"Well.. yeah, but its not even that."
"Does he know you still like him?"
"Well, I mean.. I don't know. I was the one that broke up with him, so he can do whatever he wants.. but I mean does it really need to be with those girls?"
"Why can't it be one of them?"
"Are you serious, they are dressed like sluts. I am glad that Sidney only looks for the easy kill these days."
"He's young.. let him have fun."
"Oh yeah, because when you are young, its okay to date sluttly girls." I said kind of getting pissed off.
"I don't get why you broke up with him if you still have feelings for him?"
"Because he shouldn't be tied down to someone that still has to go to homeroom." I said leaving it at that.
"He said you had a new boy anyways."
"Brooks, he has no idea what boys are in my life."
"Well who is he?"
"He goes to my brother's high school."
"You and your brother don't go to the same school?"
"No, I go to Sewickley Academy and my brother goes to Quaker Valley."
"Thats kind of weird."
"Yeah, kind of. We all went to Catholic school until 8th grade and then I picked to go to Sewickley. He has more freedom since I'm costing my parents a fortune." I explained looking at my watch.
"Hating it already?"
"Its just.. I don't know why he wanted me to come and then he just leaves me. I don't know.. it doesn't really matter anymore."
"I feel like you two just need to sit down and talk."
"I feel like there is no talking to Sidney Crosby when he is in his moods."
"What do you mean.. his moods?"
"Sometimes he gets in these moods where acts like he is THEE SIDNEY CROSBY. As in, no one should even think to cross him because we should all realize who he is.. when that happens you just got to bring him back down, but let me tell you when he with those girls down there, he is definitely on a power trip and I'm not ready to deal with that."
"You have too." He said getting up.
"Where are you going?"
"You either have to stay up here by yourself, or you have to face him.. up to you." Brooks said walking downstairs.
When I walked downstairs I saw Sidney and those girls all over him. It wasn't like it was just that Annie girl, it was multiple girls. It was disgusting, completely disgusting. I didn't want to be around it, I was tired it was already 2 am and I wanted to go home. Why did I let him drive was all I could keep thinking. I decided that I would just tell him I wanted to go.
"Sidney.. I want to go home." I said walking up to him. He just ignored me and kept talking to Annie.
"Sidney." I said grabbing his arm.
"What?" He snapped and then I grabbed his arm and pulled him into an empty room.
"Sidney.. I want to go home."
"Why?" He asked confused.
"Why? Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I'm serious.. the night is still young!" He said drinking more from his cup.
"No, the night is over for me. Either you come with me while I drive your car, or I'm taking your car and I'm leaving you here."
"Why are you being such a debbie downer?"
"Because Sidney, I came here because you wanted me too, not so I could become best friends with everyother guy on the team. I'm sorry that you won't be getting in Annie's pants tonight." I said reaching in his pockets and getting the keys and walking back out where everyone is.
"I'm not coming with you." He said.
"Fine, your car will be at my house tomorrow morning, you can come pick it up." I said walking out the door.
When I got home I just went right up to my room and crashed. I didn't wake up until noon the next morning and I saw that his keys were still sitting on my dresser. I was over it, completely over it. I had to go to the cafe in an hour to work and I didn't have time to think about what Sidney did last night. I jumped in the shower, went downstairs to grab something to eat when Sidney knocked on my door.
"Hi.. can we talk?" He said.
"Yeah, I have to get ready for work so I'll get ready and you talk."
"Why did you leave last night?" He said sitting on my bed while I started straightening my hair.
"I told you last night." I said and he just looked at me. "You don't remember?" And he shook his head. "I guess you not being able to find your keys was confusing?"
"Yeah, a bit."
"I came to the party because you wanted me too, why did I want to be at a party when the only thing you are concerned about is getting together with those whores and I am sitting on a couch talking to Brooks."
"They weren't the only thing I was concerned with."
"They were, Sidney. And you can be with whomever you choose, but can't you pick someone a littler classier?"
"You don't even know them."
"Yeah, you are right I don't. But I can guarantee you that I don't want to know someone that dresses like that. I mean hello, leave something up to the imagination?"
"You have this idea of me.. this perfect idea of me that I can never live up too."
"No, Sidney I don't have this perfect idea of you. I do expect more of you because I know you. I know how you can be and I know how your heart is and when I see you the way you were last night, it makes me lose a little respect for you."
"You lost respect for me? I am just a guy."
"Thats a great excuse, Sidney. You are just a guy and I am just a girl.. but I'm sorry if I dressed like that Annie, would you think of me in the same light as you do right now?"
"Yeah, I mean I see your point.."
"All I'm saying is that the boy I was with last night, not too sure I want to be his best friend. I kind of like the Sidney that would come home with me when I say I want to leave.. atleast Brooks will talk to a girl who isn't a whore."
"Thats just not fair, Joey."
"How isn't that fair? I CAME TO THE PARTY BECAUSE YOU WANTED ME TOO, AND I ENDED UP TALKING TO BROOKS! And its not like I don't like him, hes an awesome guy, its just not the reason I went to the party."
"You have to stop acting like we are dating.. we aren't dating.. you decided that."
"Yeah, I did decide that because it was the best thing for you, but I mean didn't really want you to go after the easiest thing in the city!" I said getting up and leaving.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to work."
"You are just going to leave it like this?"
"What do you want me to say? Your my best friend and I will love you always because you are my best friend, but I did lose respect for you and I won't support the fact of you going out and hooking up with random girls. I won't because you are better than that and you know it. There is nothing to say because its over with."

Chapter Eight
Sidney and I got over the whole him being with girls. I wanted to be with him, and he wanted to be with other girls, that was just how it was. I got use to it and I started hanging out with more kids from my high school. It was hard not to start, Jacob had his team over all the time and it was either become friends with them or leave the house, because they basically took over the whole house.
Sidney and I were back to normal. We would watch movies and I would go to his games, but it was still weird when he was mia because I knew he was with some girl.
March 2007
"Do you want to go to the game tonight and then go to Marc-Andre's?" Sidney called and asked me.
"Marc-Andre's?"
"You know Marc-Andre."
"I know who you are talking about, but I don't know about going to his house."
"They are just having a little get together."
"I don't think I really want to see you drunk." I said bluntly.
"Just come, Joey. It is like our last day we can do this until after the playoffs."
"I don't really get why want me to go with you."
"Because it will be more fun if you are there, plus I want you to be friends with some of my other friends."
"I guess.. but can I bring someone to the game?"
"Yeah, who?"
"His name is Jeremiah.. I just think it would be more fun to have someone to watch with, plus he can drive me there and then I can leave with you."
"How is he going to feel about you coming with him and leaving with me?"
"He won't care. Its not like we are together, and me and you are definitely not together so it doesn't matter."
"Yeah,I'll leave two tickets at will call."
"Sidney, can we not sit in the box.. I don't really want to explain to everyone who he is."
"Thats fine.. he does know about me though, right?"
"He knows that I know you.. I don't think he knows the extent."
"Do you really like him?"
"I'm not talking about him with you!" I said laughing.
"Okay, I'll see you after."
"Yeah, good luck."
"Hey Jeremiah.. I have a question." I said calling him.
"Yeah, whats up?"
"Do you want to go to the Penguins game with me?"
"Yeah.. definitely."
"But after the game, I kind of promised Sidney I would hang out with him?" I said shyly.
"Thats fine.. do I get to meet him?" He asked.
"I don't know.. probably not tonight, especially not if they lose."
"Does he know about us?"
"I didn't know there was an us."
"Well I mean does he know we are hanging out?"
"Yeah, he doesn't care. He will probably give me his opinion, but you are a hockey player, so thats a plus for you."
"Okay, well when do you want to pick me up?"
"Well game starts at 730 and we need to pick up the tickets he left for us.. so maybe at like 630?"
"Okay, I'll see you then."
"Hey, J."
"Yeah?"
"Don't wear anything Penguins, because he will make fun of you if he does meet you."
"Haha I wasn't going too.. don't worry."
"I'm not worried."
After the Game
"Where's the boy?" He asked when he came out of the lockerroom.
"He left."
"Was he scared of me?" He said smiling.
"Funny, Sidney. No, he wasn't scared of you.. I mean who would be scared of you!" I said laughing.
"So, we finally all get to hang out with the infamous Josephine." Ryan Whitney said.
"Yeah, I'm sure you all are so very excited." I said.
"You might never want to come back, after tonight." Brooks said.
"I guess we will have to see."
"Let's go, Jo." Sidney said grabbing my hand and then I pulled my hand away.
"Don't do that."
"Don't do what?"
"Hold my hand.."
"Okay, sorry?"
"Its fine.. I am kind of scared."
"Why?"
"Because I have never hung out with these people before."
"They are fun, its fine."
"What if they don't like me."
"They will like you, trust me.. they have heard enough about you."
"Are any of your girls going to be there?" As soon as I said that he turned up the music and ignored the question.

Chapter Seven
Two Days later
"Are you ever going to answer your phone?" Jocelyn asked.
"Its none of your business." I said.
"Who is it, anyway?"
"Sidney"
"You don't want to talk to him?"
"Nope." Then I got up and walked downstairs.
"You know you are going to have to talk to him eventually." Jacob said walking into the living room and hearing my phone vibrate for the 100th time.
"Maybe now he can understand what it feels like."
"So you are just going to let him keep calling?"
"Yup"
"Well I'm sick of listening to it and watching you mope around about him, and then when he comes back you throw him out!" He said picking up the phone.
"Hey, Sidney. Joey is actually about to go to work. I'll tell her you called." Jacob said picking up my phone.
"I am late." I said walking out the door.
"Don't you want your phone?"
"No, the only person going to call is Sidney..and I obviously don't want to talk to him."
I've been working alot at the cafe since my mom can't. Its been fine lately, bake a few pies and wait on tables. Everyone has been so nice about everything. I had been working for about 3 hours when he showed up. He sat in his normal table with a bunch of guys from the team.
"What are you doing here? You didn't get the message of me not picking up my phone?" I said to him.
"Aren't you going to take our order?" He asked in his sweet voice.
"I can't believe you would come here, where I have to talk too." I said.
"That was kind of the point." he said.
"Too bad I don't have to wait on your table... Alison, can you take this table for me?" I asked another waitress.
"No, its fine.. we will leave." Sidney said and walked out.
"You know he really is sorry, and really does miss you." Some boy with him said.
"Sorry, I don't know who you are."
"I'm Brooks Orpik, I'm on his team."
"I didn't mean to be rude, its just I don't want to talk to him right now."
"I understand, but you really should know he does miss you."
"How do you know?"
"Because on the road trip he kept talking about you and asking for advice about everything."
"I just need time... tell him that." I said.
I really did just need time. I just needed to figure it out. I loved Sidney, he didn't know that, he would never know that, but I did love him. I just need to be able to count on him, I need him to be reliable.
After a few days, Sidney got the hint. He didn't call anymore. He did send some texts just saying he missed me and how sorry he was. I knew he was sorry and I knew he didn't mean to hurt me, but it doesn't change the fact that he did hurt me. I was going to an indoor tournament this weekend and I couldn't wait. My dad was traveling up with us and it was going to be a good break from everything.
Well, the tournament didn't go so well. I didn't play that well, I only had two points. We won the championship but still, I sucked. I knew it, but from the time my dad picked me up from the bus thats all I heard.
"You need to play better." He said.
"I know, Dad. You think I don't know that?"
"Well I just don't know how you expect to get offers if you play like that?"
"Dad, I had a bad tournament, that doesn't mean the end of the world."
"You can never have a bad tournament if you expect to play Divison I. If you don't pick it up you won't even be able to be a manager for a team."
"Fine, Dad. I don't want to talk about it anymore." I said crying.
"Don't cry about this.. thats just stupid. Why do you cry over something you CAN control."
"Because I'm a girl and I cry about things. I am not Jacob.." I said and then sat in silence. When we got home, I walked in threw my stuff on the floor and grabbed my car keys.
"Where do you think you are going?" My dad asked.
"Anywhere but here." I said.
I didn't really know where I was going to go. I got in my car and I ended up at a familiar house. I guess I didn't notice that his car wasn't in the driveway, because I went to the door anyways.
"Hi Joey. Sidney isn't here." Nathalie said.
"Oh okay, I'm sorry."I said turning to leave.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, its fine." I said wiping my tears.
I ended up driving to starbucks and just sitting in there. Then I got a phone call from Sidney about ten minutes after I left the Lemieuxs.
"Joey, whats wrong?" He said before I said anything.
"I'm fine." I said trying not to cry again.
"Nathalie called me and said you went to the house."
"Yeah, I did."
"Why?"
"I needed to talk to you.. I just needed to see you."
"I'll be right there."
"You don't have to come."
"I want too. Just go back to the Lemieuxs and I'll be there in like 20 mins."
"Okay."
"Whats wrong?" He said walking into his room and finding me sitting on his bed.
"My dad basically told me that I suck at soccer."
"He didn't mean it."
"I'm sorry Sidney. I'm sorry for ignoring you for so long."
"Its fine, I should have been there for you."
"Where were you when I came before?"
"In the city."
"Where at?"
"Just at a friends house." He said getting nervous.
"You were at a girl's house?" I said standing up.
"Its nothing."
"It is something.. you were there! That explains why the phone calls stopped."
"Thats not fair. You broke up with me." He said.
"I broke up with you because I knew you wanted to have girls! I knew you wanted to have fun.. I didn't want to hold you down.. it didn't mean I stopped loving you."
"You loved me?"
"Loved.. past tense. Doesn't matter now."
"It does matter."
"No, it doesn't. I needed you and you were at some girls house, thats what means something."
"I can't do anything right with you."
"I guess not." I said getting up and leaving.
"Are you ever going to answer your phone?" Jocelyn asked.
"Its none of your business." I said.

Chapter Six
For the next two weeks, Sidney and I made ways to see eachother. When my mom was out, Sidney would come over. My dad knew what was happening, and he said it was fine. He said my mom just needed time to cool off. We really didn't give her that time, Mrs. Lemieux called for me to babysit the kids. I would go babysit and then Sidney would come home after an hour or two. We did it a few times, but this one time my mom came over because she felt bad since I had a big AP Bio test to study for. She really didn't expect to find me, Sidney, and the kids laying on the couch watching movies. Then my mom lost it. She forbid Sidney to call me or see me. She was serious this time, she said if she found out about it, I wouldn't be able to play indoor soccer. I thought she was bluffing but Sidney believed her. It was one week that Sidney and I didn't see eachother except a passing on the street. We didn't talk to eachother except a wave hello. It was one week, but I was sure it would be okay. Then.. the unthinkable happened.
"Hello, can I talk to Josephine Smith?" A woman called and asked.
"Yes, I am Josephine."
"I'm sorry, Miss. Your parents were in an accident." She said bluntly.
"What? How? Are they alright?"
"You should come to the hospital."
"I can't. I have four younger siblings I am babysitting. I don't have carseats for them in my car." I said panicing.
"It will be fine, honey. Call someone to come sit with the kids, and then get here as soon as you can." She said calmly.
I was freaking out. Sidney was on a road trip, not like that would have been the best alternative. I didn't know who to call, so I called one of the soccer moms from my team. She rushed over to babysit and I rushed into the city to see my parents.
When I got to the hospital, I saw Jacob.
"What are you doing here??" I asked confused.
"Dad gave them my cell number, and I came as soon as we got off the bus."
"Do you know what happened?"
"They were driving home from our game and I guess dad hit ice."
"Are they okay?"
"Dad just has a broken arm and a few broken ribs, but mom.. mom is bad." He said.
"What? What do you mean.. bad?"
"She is all banged up and they took her up to surgery."
"What kind of surgery?"
"She had a collapsed lung or something.. Don't worry it will be fine."
"How can you say that? Our parents are in the hospital.. how can everything be fine?"
"I don't know Jo, I don't know what else to say, but its not like we can do anything."
"We have to do something..This is can't be happening." I said sitting down in the waiting room and putting my hands over my head.
"We will get through this.. lets just go see Dad." He said trying to comfort me.
The next few days are a whirlwind. My mom is in recovery. She has had two surgeries, the one for the lung and then they had to repair a bone in her foot. My dad was basically living at the hospital so we were trying to take care of everything at the house. My grandparents flew in to take care of the kids so Jacob and I kind of went back to normal, except for the fact my parents were mia all the time. I tried to go visit every night but it was hard driving into the city and leaving everything at the house.
"Whats wrong?" Jacob said coming into my room.
"Whats right anymore?"
"Mom is doing better. She is coming home in like a week."
"I know, I just can't believe this happened.. and.."
"And what?"
"Sidney didn't call. He didn't call me when my parents were in a car accident.. nothing.. not even a text."
"Maybe he doesn't know." Jake said.
"He has to know. Nathalie has sent over food for us, if Nathalie knows, she had to have told Sidney."
"You don't know that."
"Lets just face it, hes not the guy I thought he was."
"Joey, don't condemn him. You don't know whats going on with him, and I'm sure he wishes he could be there."
"Whatever, I'm going to the hospital."
"Hi, Mom. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine, you don't have to keep coming here everyday."
"I feel bad, I was so mad at you about Sidney. I know that you were just trying to look out for me."
"I was wrong, though. I shouldn't try and run your life. He is a good boy, you deserve him."
"Some guy, he hasn't even called."
"He will. Trust me." And then we talked for awhile and I headed home.
When I drove to my house, I saw someone sitting on my porch.
"How is your mom?" He asked when I got closer.
"Like you care." I said.
"I do care."
"Really, Sidney? You care about my mom or me when you haven't called or text for two weeks?! They got in the accident over a week and a half ago.. where were you when I needed you?"
"I was on the road for a few days and then I didn't know what to do, I mean we didn't leave on the best of terms."
"You didn't know what to do? Typically when your BEST friend needs you, you are there for them no questions asked.. but I guess that term means nothing to you."
"You are my best friend and if I could have been here, I would have been."
"You could have called, Sidney. You could have done something. You have no idea how its been."
"I'm sorry.. I'm here now." He said coming over to hold me.
"Don't touch me, Sidney! You weren't here when I needed you. I needed you more than I have ever needed anyone and who the hell knows where you were.. I can't deal with this.. not now." I said walking in to my house and closing the door.

Chapter Five
"Josephine, get in here!" My mother yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"What?" I said running down the steps.. "Am I in trouble?" I asked confused.
"What do you think?" My mom said.
"I really don't know what you are talking about." I said sitting down on the couch.
"Why was Sidney in your bed this morning?" She said.
"How did you know?" I asked very confused.
"Jayden told us."
"Told you what exactly?!"
"That she came to wake you up and Sidney was with you, without a shirt."
"We didn't do anything." I said getting upset.
"How am I suppose to believe that?"
"Are you kidding me? Sidney and I aren't even dating!!"
"Then why was he here?"
"Probably because I needed help."
"help with what?"
"With the kids.. They would not go to sleep last night so Sidney helped me and then I was was worried about getting them up and fed ontime for church in the morning. Sidney offered to help, and it just made more sense for him to stay here."
"Your sisters look up to you.. what kind of message does it send that some boy is sleeping in your bed in his boxers!?!"
"MOM, WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! We didn't even kiss.. I mean seriously. Maybe if your oldest son would have been around to help, I wouldn't have needed Sidney."
"This isn't about Jacob."
"Of course its not about Jacob. He can do whatever he wants with whomever he wants.. its just me who can't have any kind of social life."
"You can have a social life, but with a millionaire?"
"I can't be friends with Sidney because of his bank account.. you have GOT to be kidding!"
"He leads a different life than you."
"Yeah, he does, but that doesn't mean I can't be apart of his life."
"It does actually."
"What is that suppose to mean?"
"It means you are my 17 year old daughter and living under my roof, and I don't want you involved with Sidney anymore."
"Sidney and I aren't involved. We haven't been dating for awhile, hes just my friend."
"I don't want you to see him anymore."
"You can't do that. He is my best friend."
"Not anymore." She said sternly
"Yeah.. we will see about that." I said running up to my room.
My mom just forbid me to see you.
"What did that text mean?" He said calling me.
"It meant that my dear ole little sister told my mom that you slept in my room last night, and now I am not allowed to see you."
"Why, we didn't do anything?"
"I know, and I think she knows that, she just.. I don't know. She said our lives are too different."
"So what are we going to do?" He asked.
"We are going to be discreet in seeing eachother. We didn't do anything wrong, and you are my best friend."
"I don't want to come between you and your mom."
"Its fine. I'll talk to my dad tomorrow."
"They didn't care about Jacob?"
"No, because hes Jacob. He can do whatever he pleases.. thats just how it is."
"Don't worry about it, Jo. We will figure it out."
"I can't believe this is happening.."
"I promise you that it will be fine. I'll call you tomorrow after the game."
"She can't do this." I said.
"I'll think of something. Just go to sleep."
"Thanks, Sidney."
"Your my best friend, there is no way that I'm not going to see you."
"What?" I said running down the steps.. "Am I in trouble?" I asked confused.

Chapter Four
"So why did Sidney run over here so quickly?" Jacob asked walking into my room.
"He wanted to explain what happened last night."
"And did he? Was it just a misunderstanding?"
"No, I mean I didn't really let him explain. We both just decided we should be friends."
"Are you okay with that?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, do you care that you and Sidney are just going to be friends?"
"I'm fine with it.. I have to go get ready for practice though." I said walking into the bathroom.
A few days later..
Do you want to come to the game tonight?
I have to babysit Jay, Jocelyn, Jason, and Jordan
How late do you have to do that?
My parents are going away this weekend, I'm on duty tonight, Jake was on last night.
Well do you want me to come over after the game?
Its up to you.. Good Luck and I'm sorry I can't come.
I'll text you after.
"Was that Sidney?" Jayden asked.
"Yeah."
"What did he want?"
"He wanted me to go to his game tonight."
"What did you say?"
"I said I was spending the night with my favorite girls!" I said getting up and heading to the kitchen.
"Hey, Jo.. you know Mark?" Jacob said coming into the kitchen.
"Mark Caylor, on your team?" I asked confused.
"Yeah.."
"What about him?"
"He kept asking me about you today.. I think he wants to ask you out." He said.
"Are you kidding?"
"No, I'm serious.. he asked me for your number."
"You didn't give it to him, did you?"
"No, do you want me too?"
"I don't want to date Mark.. I don't want to date anyone.."
"Anyone but Sidney."
"Thats not fair."
"Why isn't it fair?"
"because I'm not dating Sidney, because he has his own life.. he has this amazing life and yet he is choosing to hang around here, with me.."
"Don't you think its his choice?"
"I don't know. I don't want to talk about it anymore.. Where are you going tonight?"
"In the city after the game."
"When will you be back?" I asked.
"Tomorrow morning before mom and dad come back."
"Are you serious, Jacob?! You are going to leave me alone all night with them."
"You act like you never babysit before."
"Oh so you would love to take care of two 3 year old twins, a seven year old and a ten year old girl all by yourself.. like get them to bed and take them to church in the morning, breakfast.. that sounds like such a fun weekend.. YOU ARE THE BEST BROTHER EVER!!" I said walking up the stairs.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"You take care of them until your game.. I'm off duty." I yelled back.
"Movie time!" I yelled through the house and all the kids came running.
"What movie are we watching?" Jocelyn said.
"I think we will watch a boy movie first, and then a girl movie. So boys what movie?"
"Hercules!" Jordan said.
"Haha okay.. Everyone take your seat."
I made popcorn and everyone was watching the movie. After the first movie, I tried to take the boys up to their room but they weren't having any part of it.
"Fine, lay on the couch then.. you have an hour until you HAVE to go to bed." I said trying to be strict.
An hour came and went and the boys were not asleep, but yet the girls were passed out.
"Hey, Jay and Joce.. lets go up to bed." I said trying to wake them up. Then they walked up to their room. I like how the boys were still up and running and the girls were out long ago.
Hey, can I come in. I read that and went to the door.
"Sidney, why are you here?"
"I told you I would come after the game." He said.
"You didn't have too."
"It looks like you could use help."
"jason and Jordan will not go to sleep.. I don't know what to do."
"Hey, guys if you go to sleep now for Joey, I will take you to the rink tomorrow.. deal?" He said holding on to Jordan so he wouldn't run away.
"Promise!!" They both said.
"Promise." he said.
Sidney walked the boys up and put them to bed. I layed on the couch totally exhausted.
"So was it really that bad?" He said sitting down on the couch with me.
"It was awful. Jacob isn't coming back until tomorrow morning, I had to make them dinner and everything. We have to go to church tomorrow and breakfast.. I didn't think it would be this hard."
"Haven't you babysat them before?" He asked confused.
"Yeah, for a few hours. My mom just started leaving the younger boys over night and Jacob is usually here to help."
"Well I'll be here tomorrow morning to help."
"You are going to go come here tomorrow morning and come to church with me?"
"You need me, apparently."
"How was the game?"
"We won, it was good."
"So descriptive. Do you want to watch a movie?" I said.
"Yeah.. I'll put it in." We layed on my bed watching a movie for awhile. We were both dozing off when Sidney said something.
"Can I just stay here tonight, so I can help you when they get up?" He said.
"are you sure thats a good idea for us to both sleep in this bed?" I asked.
"I'm sure." He said taking off his shirt.
"He wanted to explain what happened last night."

Chapter Three
September 2006
When I walked out of the lockerroom after our first home game, I saw a familiar face. It took me a few minutes to realize it was real and when it hit me I just dropped my bags and ran to him.
"Sidney!" I said hugging him.
"Surprised?" He asked.
"I thought you weren't coming back until tomorrow." I said.
"I wanted to surprise you."
"It was a good surprise." I said walking back to get my bags.
"You cut your hair." He said looking at me and touching my now shorter hair.
"And I got bangs.. do you like it?"
"It looks good. You seem different." He said while we walked to his car.
"Its been a long summer. I just have been doing soccer, I told you about those camps I went to."
"Yeah, so hows everything else?" He asked when we got into the car.
"You are acting like we haven't spoken in forever, I talked to you yesterday!" I said laughing.
"I know, its just weird seeing you again. In someways its like no time has passed and in other ways its seems like forever."
"I know, I am so glad you are home though. It feels so much better." I said.
"So what are you doing tonight?" He asked me.
"I have some homework, but nothing else."
"Do you want to go get dinner?" He asked me.
"Can we just go to the cafe and then we can go back and I can do homework.. I mean I want to hang out with you, I just have a crapload of work to do."
So we went to the cafe to get food. I had to admit that it was a little weird Sidney being back. I mean, I was definitely happy to see him again, but I was confused. I liked him so much before he left and I just wasn't sure if that spark was still there. I wanted it to be, and I still had that hope that we would get back together, but I wasn't sure what he was thinking or if I still thought I was inlove with him, or if I should just loved him. We went back to my house and I did work while he layed on the couch watching friends.
"This feels right." He said.
"It does.. I missed you alot. I didn't realize until I saw you again."
"I missed you too."
We were in the basement for awhile and then it was getting late so he left. Before he left, we were standing in my basement. I was about to say something to him and he put his hand on my face and kissed me. It was an amazing kiss and I was just confused.
"What was that for?" I asked shocked.
"I missed you, and I missed being able to do that." He said.
"But what does that mean, though?" I asked.
"I don't know.. lets just figure it out."
For the next few weeks, Sidney and I were back to normal. We weren't officially together, but we would steal kisses here and there. He came to a few of my soccer games and I loved going to his games. I would sit up in the box with Mario and Nathalie. Sometimes Sidney would go out with the guys after the game, and I didn't really care. He was free to do whatever he wanted.
"Did you have fun last night?" I called him the next morning.
"Yeah.. it was okay." He said whispering.
"Just okay? I heard differently." I said.
"What do you mean?" He asked confused.
"I heard you had a few girls last night."
"I'll be over in a few minutes." He said and hung up the phone.
A few minutes passed and he was in my room.
"It looks like you just woke up." I said.
"I did.. you called me and woke me up and then I came straight here."
"Why?"
"Because why did you say those things?"
"I was just saying what I heard." I said.
"Well who did you hear that from?"
"Jacob's friend."
"How was Jacob's friend there?"
"Jacob has older friends from hockey."
"Oh." He said sitting on the bed.
"I'm not mad, Sidney.. if thats what you are thinking."
"Why aren't you mad?"
"You want me to be mad?" I asked confused.
"I was with other girls, though."
"I know, but you are 19 and are living this insane life. You should be able to do whatever you want, you should be able to date girls and flirt and not worry that I am going to find out... you shouldn't be tied down to some senior at Sewickley Academy." I said.
"I don't want to lose you."
"You won't lose me. We just aren't together."
"So what does that mean?"
"It means you are my best friend and I want to talk to you everyday and I want to go to dinner with you and have movie nights. I am just able to go out on dates and you are able to do whatever you want with girls."
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"I'm sure that I want you in my life and I am sure that this is for the best.. but no more lies, Sidney."
"I was just scared."
"I'm here, always. I can take the truth."
"Promise." He said.
"Always."
When I walked out of the lockerroom after our first home game, I saw a familiar face. It took me a few minutes to realize it was real and when it hit me I just dropped my bags and ran to him.
"Sidney!" I said hugging him.
"Surprised?" He asked.

"Always."
Chapter Two
Sidney and I dated for a few months. It was a lot of fun. We would do everything together, and me living so close to him was a big bonus. He would come over for dinner or I would go there for dinner. He would be around when I was studying, we would walk around Sewickley. I would help him babysit. I would of course go to his games and he would come watch me play soccer when he got the chance. He was literally my best friend and it was great. I couldn't imagine anything different than how it was right then. Everything seemed perfect, we had our schedules and we would see eachother any free time he had.
April 2006
"I don't want you to go." I said sitting in my basement with him.
"I have to go home, Jo. I'll be back as sooner than you think." He said comforting me.
"You won't be back until September, how is that soon anyway you think about it?" I said.
"I don't know what you want me to do. I can't stay here, I miss my family."
"I know, Sidney. But its six months away. We have only been dating for like four months." I said starting to cry.
"Don't cry.. it will be fine. We will talk everyday and I will come back sometimes." He said wiping away my tears.
"Who am I going to go to prom with?" I said through tears.
"Go with one of Jacob's friends." He said without hesitation.
"I don't want to go with one of them, I want to go with my boyfriend."
"Joey, I don't know what I can do. I have to leave tomorrow and of course I want to go to prom with you, but I just can't."
"Yeah, because you already had your prom.. it doesn't matter to you if you come or not."
"It does matter, I want to be with you, but its not going to happen. It can't happen and I'm sorry for that. I am 18 and I miss my family. I need a break from hockey."
"I know, I'm sorry." I said feeling stupid for even caring about prom. Of course Sidney Crosby wouldn't care about some stupid high school prom.
"Lets just enjoy our last day together." He said pulling me closer to him.
"Okay." I said kissing him quickly.
Sidney left the next day to go back home. Sidney and I have obviously been apart before, I mean he travels all the time, but it was different this time. He wouldn't be back in a week and it wouldn't be the same when he came back next season. Too much time would have passed and its hard to keep knowing someone when you don't ever see them. Sidney would know every big thing that would happen to me everyday, and I would see him almost anytime I wanted. If I ever needed him he was usually only a few blocks away. Now, he was thousands of miles away and I didn't know how to deal. How do I go back to the way it was before I went to pick up Jayden? How do I just deal with the boy I thought I could love being so far away and not knowing what he was doing? I trusted him, I definitely did trust him, but I am 16 years old and I don't want to have a relationship with someone that I never see.
"Are you okay?" Jacob said coming into my room.
"I don't know what to do." I said.
"About what?"
"Sidney."
"You can't mope around like this for six months, Jo. It has already been a week!"
"I just miss him and I know that when he comes back its going to be so different. I know that we should break up. I mean, he can't even go to my prom with me."
"If you know that you should break up, then why don't you?"
"I'm scared, Jacob."
"Of what?"
"He is my best friend. I can't imagine not talking to him everyday. I can't imagine not having movie nights with him or going to his games. I can't imagine him not in my life."
"Breaking up, doesn't mean you still won't be friends."
"Really Jacob? How many of your exgirlfriends are you still friends with?" I said bluntly.
"Well when is he coming back?" He asked.
"I don't know.. I guess I should just call him."
"Hey, Sidney." I said into the phone.
"Hey you."
"Hows being home?" I asked.
"Its good.. I miss you though."
"I miss you too.. I feel like we should talk about that."
"Yeah.."
"I don't want to hold you back, Sidney. You have a few months off and I want you to have fun. I don't want you to worry about calling me everyday. I just think it will be too hard not seeing you for that long." I said quickly.
"You aren't holding me back. I want to call you everyday, I really did like being with you." He said.
"I know, Sidney. And who knows what will happen when you get back to Sewickley, but now you are in Canada and I'm here. I just don't want to miss you all the time."
"I think missing eachother is going to happen either way." He said.
"I think for now we should just be friends."
"We are breaking up?" He asked confused.
"Well its not like we could really be together now anyways. I mean you don't have a relationship just by phone."
"I know and I think you are right, but I am scared..I don't want to lose you.."
"We will be fine, me and you. You are like my best friend.. you can't get rid of me that quickly.. trust me." I said laughing.
"Haha, your my best friend too. I'll call you tomorrow?" He said.
"If you want."
"Have fun at prom." He said.
"How did you know I was going?"
"jacob told me."
"Are you mad?"
"No, I want you to have fun." He said.
"Okay, I'll tell you about it tomorrow." I said and hung up the phone.

The Beginning.
November 2005
"Jo, will you go pick up Jayden?" My mom said.
"Yeah, where is she?"
"Laurens." She answered.
"Should I walk or drive?"
"You can walk.. its only a few blocks away."
"Yeah, I know where they live.. I've picked her up from there before."
I walk up to their door, kind of feeling awkward. I didn't want anyone to think that I was like this stalker fan walking up to Mario Lemieux's door. My sister, Jayden, was best friends with Lauren. They are both ten and have been best friends for as long as I can remember. My brother probably wishes he was picking her up, he is weirdly still shocked that he has talked to Mario Lemieux. I am just like get over it Jacob. So I knocked on the door and was desperately hoping that it was Lauren so I didn't have to explain to anyone.
"Hi?" I said confused when this boy answered the door.
"Hi?" He said confused back.
"I'm Jayden's sister. I am just picking her up."
"Oh, come in. I am Sidney." I just looked at him. "Sidney Crosby, I am living here."
"Oh yeah, I think Jayden said something about that."
"Did you walk here? I didn't see a car."
"We only live a few blocks away, so I figured I would just walk."
"It looks like its going to storm." He said.
"Its fine." I said. "Do you know where my sister is?" I said confused. He was just standing there talking to me and not like thinking that I was there for a reason.
"Oh yeah.. LAUREN!" He yelled.
"Good method." I said. And a few seconds later Lauren and Jayden appeared.
"It works." He said laughing.
"Apparently... Okay, Jayden we have to go to Jacob's game." I said.
"I don't want to go to his game." She whined.
"Well we still have to go, lets go.. please." I said.
"What kind of game?" Sidney asked.
"He plays hockey for the high school team. They have their first game tonight." I explained.
"Do you want me to drive you back? I think it seriously is going to rain."
"Thanks, but seriously we are fine. It was nice meeting you.."
"Yeah, maybe I'll see you around." He said and then we walked out of the house.
"I think he liked you." Jayden said while we were walking home.
"What are you talking about?" I said looking at her.
"He wanted to drive you home.. he so liked you!" She said.
" Jay, how do you know when a boy likes someone?" I said puzzled.
"Jo, I'm 10.. I know things!"
"Oh thats right.. you are 10.. I forgot!" I said laughing.
A few days later I was working at my mom's cafe. It is a small cafe and bakery and I sometimes help bake or I wait on tables. Today, I was waiting on tables.. so much fun.. especially when I know the people that come in. On this particular day, I knew the one table.
"Hey, Joey!" Lauren said when I walked over.
"Hi." I said to the table. It was Sidney and the kids.
"So thats your name.. Joey?"
"Haha yeah."
"You didn't tell me your name, you just said Jayden's sister."
"Oh sorry, can I take your drink order?" I said trying to change the subject.
Sidney tried to keep making small talk and I was just uncomfortable. I was being friendly but I didn't really know how to act. I wasn't really the type of girl that boys flirted with. I was the captain of the soccer team and a tom boy. I didn't care about my appearance much which was why it was so surprising that Sidney even gave me a second look. I took their orders and worked the next few hours not even thinking about Sidney. I got home and had another surprise.
"Jo, phone is for you." Jocelyn said.
"Who is it?" I asked her confused. Most of my friends called my cell phone.
"I don't know. Just talk." She said handing the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey.. its Sidney." He said.
"How'd you get my number?" I asked confused.
"Well I guess thats a bonus of having Lauren and Jayden being best friends." He said laughing.
"Haha good point. So whats up?" I said.
"I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out or something?" He asked me.
"Tomorrow is Monday, I kind of have school." I said laughing. "Some of us still have to go to high school."
"Could you do something after school?" He asked.
"Umm.. I have practice til like 5 and then I guess? Don't you have a game or anything?"
"No, we are off tomorrow."
"Oh thats nice, so what do you want to do?"
"Do you just want to get coffee or something?" He said.
"Yeah, thats fine."
"Do you want me to pick you up after practice?" He asked.
"Haha you probably don't want to see me right after practice." I said laughing.
"Okay, well then when do you want to meet?"
"Do you want to meet at like 7?" I said.
"Yeah.. that sounds good. I'll see you then."
"Do you want my cell number so you don't have to go through my little sisters anymore?" I said laughing.
"Yeah that would be nice." And then we exchanged numbers.
"Jo, will you go pick up Jayden?" My mom said.
"Yeah, where is she?"
"Laurens." She answered.
"Should I walk or drive?"

Intro
My name is Josephine Smith. Well thats my official name, but Joey is what I am called. I live in Sewickley, PA. It is an amazing place to grow up. Close enough to the city to still have fun, but farther enough away to feel completely safe. I have a rather big family. I have a twin brother, Jacob. Two younger sisters, Jayden and Jocelyn. I also have twin brothers, Jordan and Jason. My mother owns a cafe in Sewickley and my dad is a banker in the city. We are definitely not that wealthy. I mean, we are well enough off that we can live in Sewickley, but we are definitely not the ones living in those gorgeous houses you are all thinking about. I went to Sewickley Academy, but now I go to RMU with my brother. He plays hockey and I play soccer. I want to be a high school science teacher. I'm a tom boy and I always have been. I am a plain jane and I am fine with it. I like my life, but my life got a little more interesting when I was a junior in high school. Thats when my story really begins..
