Chapter Nineteen

Its been a few days and my knee is feeling better. I have to keep taking my medication, but I have been feeling much better. Yesterday was Thanksgiving it was delicious! My grandma helped my mom cook and it was just fun hanging out with the family. Sidney came home today, haven't seen him yet but I'm sure its only hours. I got a surprise visitor, though.
"Hey.. I come bearing flowers." He said pulling out some flowers behind his back.
"Thanks, Brooks. You really didn't have to do that."
"Just want you to get better, and you make Sidney so happy its unreal."
"Thanks for saying that."
"Its the truth.. I wish you didn't because it makes it so much harder."
"What are you talking about?"
"I would be lying if I said being with you never crossed my mind. It does.."
"I know.. I thought about it last year, but ultimately you are Sidney's friend and teammate. I'm not going to come in between that. Plus, Sidney says he would forgive me for anything, but I don't think we could get over that."
"I know.. I totally know and I won't ever try anything."
"I'm sorry, maybe in another time or place it could have happened, but Sidney is too important."
"Friends?" He said.
"Of course." Then we sat and watched some tv. "Actually, maybe you could help me with something."
"Whats that?"
"I've been wanting to get a tattoo, but I couldn't because of soccer. Lucky for me I won't be playing soccer for awhile."
"You couldn't because of soccer?"
"Well I want it on my foot."
"Oh.. I get it now."
"Yeah, and Sidney isn't really that excited about it. He thinks its stupid and why I would ever want to put something on my body for eternity. Personally, I think he is scared to go into a tattoo parlor, so I was hoping you would go with me?"
"Don't you want to go with someone you are closer with?"
"No, I want to go with you. Plus, my friends from high school aren't really back and my friends from school are gone."
"What about Jake?"
"He wouldn't like it."
"When do you want to go?"
"Now?" I asked hopeful.
"Isn't Sidney going to be coming around soon?"
Hey, Sid. I'm going into the city for awhile. I'll call you when I get back.
"Taken care of." I said.

So we went to get me a tattoo. I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted the word Faith written in script on the inside of my foot. I have always wanted it, but it was never practical because it would hurt to play soccer so soon after.
"Why did Sidney care so much?" Brooks asked when we got back into his car.
"I don't know. I guess he just didn't like the idea of it. It seems kind of stupid.. who knows."
"So how are you guys?"
"Fine, I guess. Its just weird trying to start over. Trying to get back to how it was. He acts like I can just throw everything I'm scared about out the window and just fall head over heels for him."
"what are you scared of?"
"do you know how many girls want to have Sidney say to them what he says to me? Do you know how many girls fantasize about him and want to be with him? Do you know how scary that is? How scary it is that everywhere he goes girls want him.. how can I compete with that?"
"I don't know, Jo. I don't have the answers for you, but there is a reason Sidney loves you. I think you just need to give it a chance."
"We had a chance before.. and it didn't really work."
"Did you really give it a chance, or were you just scared?"
"I don't know.. I'm sure him seeing this tattoo will have a good fight."
He pulled up to my house and Sidney was sitting on my porch with my little brother Jason.
"Sorry, if Sidney gets mad at you."I said turning to Brooks and I got out of the car.
"Why were you with Brooks?"
"We went somewhere."
"Where?"
"Come here.. I'll show you."

  2. I like how you didn't push the envelope with Brooks and Jo. And you are right in saying that it would have been too much like "Going from Ordinary."
